Winter Make-Up Trends

So, I’ve spent most of this week debating with several groups of friends what I should, or definitely shouldn’t, wear to Christmas parties this December (yes, my life is that interesting!)

However, the only thing I can decide on is the make-up and nails – something dark. I know most people dye their hair darker when the weather gets colder, but for once I’ve stayed blonde and feel I need to go dark elsewhere this Winter. So, I’m thinking Wine coloured nails (more Pinot Noir than Grigio), classic smokey eyes and lashings of mascara. All I need now is a dress…

Nails. Dark reds always tend to shine more in the winter. Try a delicious dark red, and either a top-coat of Barry M shine, or Essie’s matte to add something extra. An accent nail in a similar shaded glitter, or nail caviar, could add a little extra if you’re looking for some sparkle too.

Blushed cheeks A great tip I heard recently is to apply blusher under a light later of foundation for a rosy cheek effect, rather than after foundation. It looks more subtle too, especially if you’re worried about your blush overpowering your look.

Smokey eyes. Certain to add a little extra to daytime make-up, smokey eyes done well can transform your outfit, with rock chick effortlessness. Want a break from the staple grey/black smokey eyes? Try gold, or even rose gold, this winter.There are no rules! Having statement eye makeup doesn’t mean you need to tone down the rest of your look, just wear what you feel comfortable in.

Sultry lips. Dark red lips are fast becoming a winter night favourite. Paired with a LBD and heels, you’ll pretty much nail any dress code this Christmas. A brighter shade might work fabulously with smudged eyes, but pale pink lips might look stunning with natural eye makeup. It’s all down to personal preferences, and you’re willingness to experiment.

BIG Nail Varnish Fan…

Rainbow of nail varnish! How many colours do you own? Have you used them all?

It’s true. I’m a hair dye addict.

Hi!

So, one thing you may have noticed from my blog is my ever changing hair colour…

I have dyed my hair since I was 16 (that’s just over 6 years ago) and I have had well over 20 changes in colour, cut and style since then (!)

My only advice? Treat your hair with care! I had to have my hair cut short because I bleached it too much! Use treatments, protect it when you style it, and try to wait between dyes.

Outfit: Saturday Night Eats

Hi!

Last night I went to a Indian buffet restaurant with my boyfriend, and some of his friends.

The blazer is from Mango, and the sleeves roll right down. It fits so well, and I’m wearing a M/12-14.

The jeans are Topshop, Baxter. I go through leggings so quickly so I thought I’d invest in some black skinny jeans – they’re quite tight but are an amazing fit. They do so many leg lengths too, which is fab for a tall girl like me!

The pumps are H & M, and the top is old season Topshop.

Pastel French Mani

Hi!

Continuing on with the theme of mani’s with a twist…

I recently saw some gorgeous Essie Mint apple nail varnish (shown above) and wanted to try it as a French manicure. However, I also noticed I had so many pastel shades, and wanted to experiment!

White Glitter

Hi!

As you know I love experimenting with nail colours, and I recently bought a gold glitter by Barry M.

However, when I used the glitter on a pale nail – the glitter wasn’t a solid look, and it looked almost patchy.

So, I looked around (mostly at Pinterest) and saw some great pastel shades teamed with a glitter top coat.

So, here is my take on this trend. Simple white varnish with a thin layer of gold glitter – I think it really makes the gold stand out!

A French Mani…with a twist

I love a french manicure. Peach or nude are my favourites, but either way – it will always be a classic look.

I’ve always experimented with colour, and recently I wanted to see what shades would work well with a French manicure.

I’d tried dark raspberry and black before, but the colours/shade was so similar that it didn’t stand out…although it did look great as subtle style. I finally went for a gold and black mix, after becoming inspired by the A/W trends baroque and dark/gothic, with the luxe gold detailing and black leather tailoring.

I used Barry M Black for the main part of the nail, and Barry M effects Gold Foil for the tip. One tip I picked up from doing home French manicures is to make the white, or coloured, tip shape match the curve of your cuticle, to ensure a more natural finish. I finished with Barry M clear/topcoat.
